DEPARTMENT POLICY — PUBLIC RECORD

RECORDING & FIELD REPORTS

Recording is part of how JDOT operates. This page explains what gets recorded, what gets published, and what privacy options you have before any Field Report goes public.

Last updated: 2026-04-26. This policy may be updated as JDOT grows. Material changes will be noted on this page.

Recording is mandatory

Every JDOT dispatch is recorded. Recording is part of the operating model and is not optional.

How JDOT records

JDOT records dispatches using video and audio through body, handheld, mounted, phone, or other operational cameras. JDOT also takes before/after photos.

Why JDOT records

Scope verification. Safety. Documentation. Training. Dispute prevention. Content creation. Field Reports.

What Field Reports are

Field Reports are dispatch videos uploaded to JDOT's YouTube channel and cross-posted to TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook (@jdotdept). Field Reports are titled by city and service type, not by address.

Dispatch-form acknowledgment

The dispatch form requires you to acknowledge: "I understand JDOT records every dispatch with video and audio for documentation, safety, scope verification, training, and Field Reports. Recording is part of JDOT's operating model." The form will not submit without this acknowledgment.

Privacy options before publication

Reporting citizens may request that identifying or sensitive details be obscured before publication of any Field Report from their dispatch. The dispatch form lets you choose:

This is not a final-edit approval process. JDOT retains editorial control over Field Reports.

Default privacy protections

Regardless of the option you choose, JDOT does not publish children, personal documents, house numbers, license plates, family photos, medical, legal, or financial papers, valuables, or exact-address indicators in any Field Report.

Estate, hoarding, and sensitive jobs

Estate cleanouts, hoarding situations, and sensitive property clearances are handled with extra discretion. The department-voice jokes stop at the door. Published content is process-focused — walkthrough, set-aside box, donation routing, broom-clean finish — and never trades on grief or private personal details.

If you refuse recording

JDOT may decline the dispatch. Recording is not optional for any job.
